Overgrowth, erosion, blight, and age have felled numerous trees on the grounds of my home and at the adjoining creek, especially during the past two years.
One trunk snapped to land nearly collinear to the roots of another that's far larger, which fell from the nearby hillside back in April.
If I'd any sense, I would've shot these months ago before its roots withered! Despite its diminished volume, this dead tree is still a beast that obstructs most vehicular passage through the creek.
Nearby, another long-dead tree is typical of many along the creekbank that are dying and falling for its erosion.
At the bourne of a hurst, two other trees fell recently. This first one was nearly dead when it was toppled by a tempest in May.
Alongside it, the other was long deceased, debarked, and branchless when I accidentally felled it with a light pedal nudge. Any suggestion that I kicked it would constitute gross overstatement.
As inspection of the trunk and especially its base evidence, termites have made a feast of this corpse for a long time.
Trees large and small are perishing and falling along the creek. If our region hadn't suffered such drought throughout the past year, we would've observed more felling.
Exposed roots of dead and dying trees are a common sight along the bank.
